What is the difference between my credit limit and my card limit? How can I adjust them?

Business Customer

There is an important difference between the credit limit and the card limit. Both determine how much you can fuel, but they operate at different levels.

What is a credit limit?

Your credit limit applies to your entire account and determines the total amount you can spend with all your fuel cards combined. This limit was set at the start of your contract based on the estimated annual consumption. Each transaction made with the fuel card is deducted from this available credit. Once an invoice is paid, the corresponding amount is released again. Outstanding invoices and unbilled transactions therefore affect your available credit.

If you want to increase your credit limit, you can submit the desired credit limit via cardsupport@q8.be. We will then submit a request to our credit insurer. Please note that a request for an increase also involves a new assessment of your file. If the credit insurer does not approve the increase based on the available financial data, there is a possibility that the current credit limit will be revised or revoked. In that case, a new credit line may be obtained through a guarantee or bank guarantee.

What is a card limit?

Your card limit applies to one specific fuel card and determines how much you can fuel with that card within a certain period, such as per day, week, or month. Want to increase the card limit? There must be sufficient available credit within your account. The card limit can never be higher than the available credit limit at the account level.

Are you an account administrator? Then you can easily lower the card limit yourself via the customer portal. Don’t have access? Then contact your fleet manager or employer:

  1. Log in to the Customer Portal. Can’t log in? Click here.
  2. Click on Cards

  3. Click and choose Manage limits and products for multiple cards

  4. Select the cards for which you want to lower the limit

  5. Click Continue

  6. Set the desired limit and click Save. The change is usually active after about 15 minutes.

If you want to increase the card limit, you can submit a request as a fleet manager or employer via cardsupport@q8.be. Please specify the desired card limit per day, week, or month in euros so we can process your request quickly. We will then check if the increase is possible, taking into account the available credit at the account level.

Private Customer

You cannot apply for a fuel card without a business account. If you want a fuel card for private use, the application is processed through an accredited membership organization that offers fuel cards. In the meantime, you can easily fuel via the Q8 app by linking a payment card.
